Hood Cleaning Lead Technician

We are looking for a dependable Hood Cleaning Lead Technician for the Des Moines area. In this role, you lead a small crew that cleans commercial kitchen exhaust systems overnight, after restaurants have closed for the day.

Some hands-on experience with hood cleaning, degreasing, pressure washing, HVAC, or general maintenance work is preferred, since a lead is responsible for directing less experienced technicians on-site. Paid on-the-job training is provided on our cleaning process, chemical handling, and safety standards.

This work happens overnight, typically starting in the evening and running until early morning. You will climb ladders, work above cooking equipment, and handle degreasing chemicals in tight, hot, greasy spaces. Be ready to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and stay on your feet for a full shift.

Responsibilities

  • Scrape and remove grease buildup from commercial kitchen exhaust hoods, fans, filters, and ductwork.
  • Set up and operate pressure washers and steam equipment to degrease hood systems.
  • Apply degreasing chemicals safely and rinse surfaces according to standard cleaning procedures.
  • Climb ladders and work from rooftop units to access and clean exhaust fans.
  • Direct and check the work of one or two crew members on each job site.
  • Protect kitchen equipment, floors, and surfaces with tarps and covers before cleaning begins.
  • Remove, clean, and reinstall grease filters correctly before leaving each site.
  • Inspect completed work for missed grease spots and re-clean as needed before signing off.
  • Load and unload cleaning equipment, chemicals, and supplies from the company vehicle at each stop.
  • Complete job checklists and before/after photos for each account.
  • Communicate with restaurant managers on-site about access, scheduling, and any issues found.
  • Follow safety procedures for ladder use, confined spaces, and chemical handling.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to reach job sites overnight.
  • Able to pass a background check and motor vehicle record (MVR) check.
  • Able to climb ladders and work at heights, including on rooftops.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and stay on your feet for a full shift.
  • Able to work overnight hours, typically evening through early morning.
  • Comfortable working in hot, tight, and greasy spaces.
