Line Cook

Summary

The Line Cook prepares food to the Executive Chef’s specifications and sets up food stations for the menu. The Line Cook assists the executive and sous chef with their daily tasks and serves guests in accordance with brand and management standards of food and beverage quality, presentation, and sanitation — in a gracious and professional manner. Responsible for the daily production of high-quality food.

Reports to: Food & Beverage Supervisor/Manager or Executive Chef

Essential Functions

  • Run checks on all food products in the kitchen to ensure standards are met and communicate inventory needs.
  • Maintain good housekeeping procedures in preparation areas.
  • Prepare the complete line of meal set-up and establish an adequate par for the set-up.
  • Set up and stock food items and other necessary supplies.
  • Prepare food items by cutting, chopping, mixing, and preparing sauces.
  • Cook food items by grilling, frying, sautéing, and other methods to specified recipes and standards.
  • Ensure all refrigerated foods are properly identified, covered, and dated.
  • Comply with all food safety and sanitation standards and policies.
  • Maintain regular attendance in compliance with company standards, as required by scheduling, which varies according to the needs of the hotel.
  • Comply with all company standards and policies to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
  • Approach all encounters with guests and team members in a friendly, service-oriented manner, and work as a team.
  • Attend all training/meetings as required by management and perform other duties as assigned by food and beverage management.

  • Able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately.

Physical Demands

  • Long early-morning hours required.
  • Medium work — exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 30 pounds frequently, to lift, carry, push, or pull objects.
  • Able to be on your feet throughout the entire shift.

Education & Experience

  • Previous culinary school preferred.
  • At least 1 year of previous work experience in the food industry required.
  • GED or high school diploma preferred but not required.
