Youth & Family Support Specialist

Des Moines, Iowa Full-Time Human Services $18–$21/hour

Position Summary

We are seeking compassionate, dependable, and motivated professionals to support youth and families in a residential or community-based setting. This position plays a key role in helping individuals develop life skills, improve emotional well-being, and achieve personal goals through positive relationship-building and supportive guidance.

The ideal candidate is a recent four-year college graduate with a degree in Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, Sociology, Criminal Justice, or Behavioral Science — or someone with proven experience in the field. They are passionate about helping others, excel at building trust, and remain calm and effective in challenging situations.

Schedule: Full-time, 4-day work week with a combination of daytime, afternoon, evening, and weekend hours. Pay: $18.00 – $21.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Foster a safe, structured, and supportive environment for youth and families.
  • Build positive relationships that encourage growth, stability, and success.
  • Assist with individualized support plans and goal implementation.
  • Facilitate skill-building activities and group discussions.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and encouragement during daily interactions.
  • Support individuals in developing healthy coping, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Document observations, progress, and significant events accurately.
  • Collaborate with team members and community partners to ensure quality services.

Qualifications

  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Passion for working with youth, families, and community-based services.
  • Ability to build rapport and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Education & Experience

Qualified candidates may possess a combination of education and experience in human services, education, healthcare, social services, behavioral health, youth development, or related fields. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience will be considered.
